TITLE: Queer Shorts (second edition)
MANAGING EDITOR: Jennifer Clare Burke
PUBLISHER: Homofactus Press
DEADLINE: 01.01.11
Please post this call for submissions freely.
I need your short stories for the new and expanded second edition of an anthology of LGBTQ writing.
New and established voices spanning generations contributed short fiction stories to the first edition of Queer Shorts (Merge Press). Queer Shorts will be released as a second edition with plenty of new material.
I seek complexity and depth in character motivation; a unique voice or perspective; inventive narration; and compelling plot development. Original plot lines and rich, entertaining storytelling go a long way beyond a two-dimensional, contrived read. Stories can interrogate, celebrate or redefine what “queer” means as well as contribute to the current landscape of diverse LGBTQ fiction. Submissions may be erotic or sexually graphic, but I am not seeking porn or erotica specifically.
Submissions must be sent as Word files (not a pdf) with text in 12 point Times New Roman font. Stories should be previously unpublished (unless you retain full, unfettered, republication rights and can attach a copy of your contract), 1500-6000 words in length (possibly negotiable), and typed double-spaced. You may submit more than one essay. Each story must be emailed separately please.
Please send submissions to with your legal name, pseudonym (if any) you wish to use, address, phone number, email, and the bio you would like to appear in the book if your selection is chosen for publication. Please put your name and the letters “QS” in the subject field of the email. You should receive an email confirming receipt of your submission.
Final contributors will receive a US$25.00 honorarium, two copies of Queer Shorts and retain full copyright to their essay.
For any other questions, please email .
